Correy has been working in primary care since 2017, which was a big change from where she started with inpatient care. One of her primary reasons for choosing primary care is to focus on prevention. Helping foster healthy habits and treat basic medical conditions to limit chronic problems. Correy's medical background is critical care but she has worked many elements of nursing prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner from delivering babies to end of life. While she works with all ages, she really enjoys her pediatric patients and the energy they bring to her workday. Prior to working in medicine, Correy worked as a backcountry ranger. She sees the value in helping patients maintain and improve health through the choices they make, especially physical activity and diet. Staying up on preventative care through routine age-appropriate screenings and vaccination is also crucial to Correy and an element of primary care she is most passionate about. Team-based care is also important to Correy and not only is that a reason why she values her colleagues in Corvallis but also the approach she takes individually with each patient through collaborative decision making. If she could impart anything to patients it is this: Get outside. We are so lucky to live where we do. I am just elated when I see clients I met in an exam room out on the trails. I love working with people who have goals to build or maintain activity and I truly believe that all kids and adults should spend time outside every day. It is amazing what our natural environment will do to challenge us and let our minds take a break from the conventions of our jobs, screens and day-to-day stressors. When not at work you will find Correy running, climbing, biking, skiing and camping with her husband, her two boys, dogs and sometimes -- a cat.
