Hugh Robert Gapay, PA-C

I was born in Miles City, Montana, graduated from Helena High, attended the University of Montana (UM), where I studied philosophy and economics. Following my studies, I spent 11 years as a crab fisherman on the Bearing Sea in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. In 1990, I married, we settled in the Bitterroot Valley and began building our dream home! In 1999, our first child was born, and I faced a career-ending injury. After recovering, I returned to UM for Pre-Med studies, then completed the Physician Assistant MS program at Pacific University in Oregon. I enjoy working with patients of all ages and partnering with those managing chronic conditions, using an evidence-based approach to help them achieve their health goals. I have extensive experience treating diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and many other conditions. I’m also skilled in various orthopedic joint injections and have years of experience in medical weight loss. ’ve found that patient education is empowering for overall health. Witnessing patients discover meaningful ways to improve their health and quality of life is immensely fulfilling. I find great joy in mentoring and training medical students, helping the next generation of medical providers thrive. I also find joy in cycling; my wife and I have been honored in local and regional biking competitions, I’ve been recognized as a National Champion in 24-Hour Road Racing and have multiple qualifications for the Race Across America. We’re passionate about mountain biking and camping in Montana – we’re delighted to call Montana home again!
