Phonphanh Dedthanou, DO

Dr. Phonphanh Dedthanou is a neurologist at Bitterroot Health in Hamilton who brings broad clinical training, a strong background in medical education and research, and a longstanding commitment to service.

Dr. Dedthanou earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her neurology residency at West Virginia University. During her training, she cared for patients with a wide range of neurological conditions, including complex and critically ill patients. Her academic work included presentations and research focused on conditions such as stroke, seizures, traumatic brain injury and other neurological disorders.

For Dr. Dedthanou, caring for others has extended beyond the hospital and clinic. She has served in the Army National Guard since 2008 and currently serves as a captain and medical officer. Her military medical experience includes emergency care, primary care, medical evacuation and health protection, as well as training other military medical personnel. She has also helped train special operations medics in critical-care skills through West Virginia University.

Her years in medicine and military service have given Dr. Dedthanou experience caring for people in a wide variety of circumstances, while teaching her the importance of listening, clear communication and working together to meet each person's needs.

Dr. Dedthanou is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association and American College of Physicians. She is honored to serve patients in the Bitterroot Valley and looks forward to helping patients better understand their neurological health and find a path forward.
